Roksolana Kostur, attorney, the partner of the «Matviyiv and Partners» attorneys at law, participated in the round table organized within the grant initiative «Effective application and modernization of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine in the light of the principle of competition and the right to protection», which is being implemented by the Ukrainian Bar Association with the financial Support to the Council of Europe Project «Further Support to the Reform of Criminal Justice».
The event took place on 05th December, 2017 in Lviv in the shopping gallery Opera Passage, the conference hall “Leopolis Hall”.
International experts, lawyers, judges, prosecutors, detectives and leading scholars were among the speakers and participants of the event.
Invited participants received useful and relevant information on the following issues:
- Recent changes to the Criminal Procedural Code: implications, risks and application predictions.
- Strengthening competition and «aligning» the imbalance of powers of the prosecution and defense.
- Strengthening the institute of the investigating judge on the pre-trial investigation.
- Some areas of improvement of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine:
– Improvement of the protection of inviolability of attorney’s secrets.
– Involving of attorney to the urgent procedural steps: how to stop abuse?
– Notification of the covert investigative (detective) actions: actions how to make the “dead” norm work?
– The effectiveness of the victim’s rights protection.
– Summary criminal proceedings: changes to standards.
